The Heart and Spirit of WaterAid – for Rosie

Artist - Nicole Cassar

In 2023, after nearly 20 years of inspiring service to WaterAid Rosie Wheen decided to step back and create space for new leadership at WaterAid and chart a new course for herself . Rosie is integrating her lessons, tools and experiences to radically redefine leadership for herself and others to one that is compassionate, authentic and courageous. Her intention is to also unlock more diverse leaders and leadership practices through coaching and mentoring.

Rosie is renowned as a storyteller and speaker whether in a ball room, a conference center, community hall or a podcast Rosie’s stories capture the hearts and minds of listeners and invite us all to take action to create a more just world.

Storytelling, sensemaking, collaboration, reflexivity, innovation, and strategic practices are at the core of her ways of working and being in the world.

Quotes

  • If you get the chance to have Rosie present, my advice is: grab it with both hands!

In my work I have coached hundreds of people in presentation and storytelling. Rosie Wheen is one of those rare gems - a natural storyteller with an extraordinary lived experience of profound service, challenging adventures and courageous leadership to draw on. Rosie connects deeply with audiences through her courage to share stories of her own struggles and learnings. Her natural compassion and joy for life light up the room and inspire people to act from their best self.

Simon Oats, Storytelling and Presentation Coach

I've had the privilege of walking with Rosie as a board member for WaterAid Australia.

As CEO, Rosie's charismatic leadership included an unwavering commitment to kindness, listening and humility. This meant she was open to learning and to progressing difficult issues such as taking on the challenges of anti-racism work including ensuring diverse voices have a place at all levels of the organisation.
